KATHY
BURRER
I moved to Sequim with my husband in the summer of 2001, when he
was offered a job at A1 Auto Parts. This was an area we had often
visited and the opportunity to live here was a welcome change.
I am the Administrator of Dungeness Courte Alzheimer’s
Community where I have been employed since October of 2001.
|
|
I take an active part in educating the community about Alzheimer’s
disease and other forms of dementia, sponsoring workshops and teaching
classes. I have always enjoyed helping people and gravitate to employment
that fulfills this passion. I spent two years in the Peace Corps
teaching Special Education in Tunisia, a year on the Navajo Indian
Reservation as a volunteer running a group home for developmentally
disabled children, and fifteen years working with developmentally
disabled at Fircrest School in Seattle. I also did a tour of duty
in the Navy where I was stationed in Adiak, Alaska. This was an
opportunity to see the world from a different perspective and get
to know myself a little better.
When I am
not working I enjoy spending time with my husband and two dogs,
we travel and camp as time permits. My hobbies include sewing,
quilting, knitting (still learning), and gardening.
I feel strongly
about being involved in our community and look forward to being
an active part of Soroptimist.

My name is Heidi Ennes. I am 34 years old and was born in London,
England. I moved to Sequim in 1993 and married my husband Greg the
same year. We live here in Sequim. My parents have since moved to
Sequim and my brother lives in California. Greg and I have 1 loopy
dog and 3 cats. |

I
started working with my mother-in-law Linda Ennes at Landmark Property
Management. I am now Broker and share ownership with Linda after
we purchased the Sequim Branch in 1998. I enjoy friends, my pets,
traveling, reading, eating and vegetable gardening. My husband and
I are still busy fixing up our old house.
I sponsor 2 children
through the Christian Children’s Fund. I also send money
to the Delhi Women’s Commonwealth – an organization
I got to hear about when I visited friends in India in January.
I feel very welcomed
by the wonderful women who make up the Sequim sector of Soroptimists.
I look forward to being part of this great organization.

KATHLEEN
DEJONG
In January of 2000 I retired from Darigold (now WestFarm Foods)
where I was their Telecommunications Manager for 18 years. My husband
Ray and I moved to Sequim in November from Kirkland, where I was
born and raised.
|
|
We
“retired” to our small 15 acre farm on Lost Mountain
where we raise organic beef, blackberries, black raspberries, asparagus,
etc.
Ray sold his Farmers
Insurance agency in Renton and
now works as a real estate appraiser with Phil Langston. I joined
Soroptimist to make new friends and at the same time give back
to the community we have come to love.

KAT
ESSEX
I have four fuzzy children: Buddy, a nine year-old Australian Sheppard
mix; Calvin, a nine year-old Domestic Shorthair Tiger kitty; Ryder,
a Beagle pup; and Sasha, a three year-old tortoise shell Himalayan.
I have a wonderful husband, John Nance. We have been married for
two and a half years. |
 |
My
first career was as a horse trainer. As an assistant trainer at
Del Mar near San Diego, CA I managed the two year old racing string
for an internationally known horse farm. While at the racetrack
I volunteered my services to teach American History to green card
holders seeking to become American citizens. I worked for an engineering
firm contracted to work for Microsoft on the Y2K project. I moved
on to a manufacturing company and assisted the President, CFO and
Employment Administrator, as well as supervising the administration
department. I then started my first business which was helping people
organize themselves.
Now, I am Director of Visiting Angels Living Assistance
Services. Since I own my franchise, I am in charge of business
growth and development, marketing, finances, strategic planning,
succession planning, and any other matters that arise in the day-to-day
management of a small business.
