A MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT This morning I was enjoying a cup of tea, flipping through a magazine, and basking in the serene beauty of a glorious autumn day when I stumbled upon an article regarding a battered woman. Suddenly a drab pallor fell over the day as I thought of the number of people in our world that are in need. You can’t help wondering whether anyone can make a difference. And then I thought of our club, a small group by most organizational standards, but a group that does make a difference, especially for women and girls. There’s a Medical Loan Closet which fits an obvious need in our “graying” community. But more than just loaning out medical equipment to make life easier for those that are struggling, we’re also offering a human touch to people at a time that they need it most. Does our presence make a difference to those folks? You bet! How about the lives we touch when we award scholarships and awards? Yes, again. We are making a difference to each recipient by illustrating that we have faith in them and their goals. Again, it’s knowing that someone cares! Don’t forget the people whose holidays are enriched by our programs of Adopt-A-Family and Caring Trees. The WIN Program which helps to expand the horizons of our Sequim High School girls. Through us, they are encouraged to be all that they can be. And, how about all the other local organizations we support through our “committed funds” and “uncommitted funds”? How about the lives of the women we’ve improved through our Federation and International programs? Will we make a difference through Project Independence: Women Survivors of War and other programs like it? You bet! So…let’s continue to fight drabness and to spread as much sunshine as we can! President Sandy
