FOUNDATIONS REPORT

Soroptimist International of Sequim honored the October girl of the month (GOM) and the November GOM at their October 15, 2002 meeting. Mari Yamamoto, daughter of Mr. And Mrs. Wayne Yamamoto, was chosen as the October GOM. She is senior class president; she enjoys volleyball and plays the piano. She is active in her church youth group and has participated for three years in a work/service trip to the Flathead Indian Reservation in Montana. Her tentative goal is to enter the medical field.

Angela Nesse, daughter of Mr. And Mrs. Dale Nesse, was chosen as the November GOM. She lived in Ecuador until she moved to Sequim at the age of 13. She is ASB (Associated Student Body) vice president and involved in: the honor’s society, Spanish club, track and drama. She is on the leadership team for her church youth group. After graduation, she plans on becoming a doctor specializing in premature babies.

VIOLET RICHARDSON
AWARD

WOMEN'S OPPORTUNITY AWARD

Soroptimist International of Sequim is accepting applications for the organization's Violet Richardson Award. Young women between the ages of 14-17 from the Sequim School District are eligible to apply for this $250.00 award. It is a merit award and not based on academic achievement. Students must demonstrate a commitment to improving the life of others, school activities, and service in the community.

The applications, along with two letters of reference, must be returned to Diane Jones, Law Office of Erwin P. Jones, Jr., 441 West Washington by December 15, 2002.

The Soroptimist Club of Sequim is now taking applications for its Women's Opportunity Award. This award is designed to assist a woman who serves as the primary breadwinner for her family and must enter the workforce or upgrade her employment status. This $1,000 award may be used to offset any costs associated with her efforts to attain higher education or additional skills and training - such as books, childcare and car fare. The local recipient is automatically eligible for a regional award.

Applicants must have attended Sequim High School or are presently living in the Sequim School District. Applications must be returned by December 15, 2002 and may be picked up at the following Locations: Peninsula College Financial Office, Pacific Mist Books in downtown Sequim, or Windermere, Sunland Office.
