Dear Soroptimists,
We are now four months into our Soroptimist year and much has been accomplished.
It has been action packed starting with the Federation Conference in
July, summer preparation of our yearly roster, resumption of club meetings,
leadership training through SOLT, District 1 meeting and the recent
induction of four new members. These are just some of the highlights,
but much has and is happening behind the scenes in committee work.
Your board of directors has been working hard to accomplish all that
needs to be done to make this year run smoothly. Thank you, ladies for
a job well done. We have had some disappointments, as well, with the
loss of two board member who resigned the same week. But we have a resilient
club and have already filled one position and are hopeful more members
would be willing to serve in leadership roles. It may even be you, what
do you think?
The Northwest Region has a willingness to help the local club with questions
from leadership or members. Their phone numbers and e-mails are posted
on the website www.soroptimistnwr.com. I recently contacted the Northwestern
Region secretary to ask about a pyramid analogy used in a workshop.
Actually, I had lost the paper and past President Anne Pence suggested
I call someone on the regional board to ask about it. To my great delight,
Sue Riney (region secretary) e-mailed the board and I had an e-mail
returned from Governor DeDe Olson within a few hours. The information
was faxed to me and I had it on Anne's desk the next day and we were
able to use it for our SOLT meeting. Governor DeDe's theme "Together
Everyone Achieves More" or TEAM refers to Soroptimists willingness
to help at a moments notice.
I have also felt the TEAM spirit from many of our own Soroptimist members.
You are a hard working, dedicated group of women making a difference
in the lives of many in our community. Thank you for your dedication
to Soroptimism.
One of my goals this year is to continue to bring the International
Organization into view and to consider a friendship link with a club
outside our country. The world seems a smaller place with our ability
to communicate in real time and yet opens up opportunities to understand
and make friends with women from other clubs.
As we approach the Holiday Season, I wish you and yours the very best.
President Leah
